Mons Mental Health Mission

Story

Hello everybody!

In Australia, it's estimated that 45 per cent of people will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime and as some of you may or may not know, over the past 3  years mental illness has been a very prevalent illness in my life. Without the help of professionals at the Royal Children's Hospital, Albert Road Clinic and Salutegenics Psychology Office, (aswell as the help of friends and family) I may not have been here today, let alone with the mindset I now have on life.

When battling my depression, At first I was so ashamed to be associated with some thing that unfortunately many people view as an attention seeking behaviour. The stigma associated with mental illness was a part of the reason why I prevented proper treatment for such a long time resulting in the worsening of my depression in which I was hospitalized for because of my suicidal intentions. Unfortunately, stigma and prejudice is a main reason as to why people suffering mental illness do not initially speak up.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44, with around 2,500 people dying by suicide every year. That's an average of eight people every day. And for every suicide, there are tragic ripple effects for friends, families, colleagues and the broader community.

Because this affects all of us, beyondblue is working towards equipping everyone in Australia with the knowledge and skills to protect their own mental health, as well as tackling stigma, prejudice and discrimination by breaking down the barriers that prevent people from speaking up and reaching out.

In 2017 I will be running The Melbourne Colour Run Night and I have decided to make a difference by creating my very own fundraising appeal for the beyondblue foundation. Through here you can easily support my efforts by making a secure donation. This issue is one that is very close to my heart and I would appreciate you all getting behind me if you could! I would also really appreciate it if you could share my page above or comment below so more people know about it. Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of and by donating to this fundraiser, you are helping to reduce the impact of depression, anxiety and suicide.
